On behalf of the Ukrainian Peace Council (UPC), on August 24, 2025, Ukraine’s Independence Day, the Advisor to the Head of the UPC, Ms. Nataliia Vynnyk, presented the “Order of Peace” Award in the United States to the Head of the non-governmental organization World Information Transfer (WIT), Dr. Christine Durbak.
This distinguished award recognizes her significant personal contribution to peacebuilding efforts, her active civic engagement in the defense of democratic and humanitarian values, and her long-standing dedication to restoring peace and harmony in Ukraine and throughout the world.
Dr. Christina Durbak and the organization she leads, World Information Transfer – which holds the status of a General Consultative Body at the United Nations – have been working for decades to lay the foundation for sustainable environmental security at the global level. Her activities include, in particular, assistance to Ukraine after the Chornobyl nuclear disaster of 1986, as well as support in addressing the consequences of the aggressive military actions ongoing since 2014, aimed at safeguarding the lives, health, and security of people.
At Dr. Durbak’s initiative, on November 6, 2024, the United Nations Headquarters hosted the international seminar “Environmental Security in War and Armed Conflict”, which provided the global community with compelling evidence and data on the scale of environmental devastation in Ukraine caused by Russian military aggression.
